Artist Statement

Bronwyn Vaughan is an installation artist whose large-scale works respond to layered histories in physical sites. A long career in theatre has informed the performative nature of Vaughan’s installations. Her work intentionally seeks to disrupt, challenge and transform the space it occupies. She sees her sculptures as sets, props and performers in themselves, activated by the presence of an audience.

Vaughan uses weaving as a strategy for construction, to move between craft, architectural and sculptural languages. Blending welded steel, wire and fabric, the work is simultaneously strong and soft, solid and fragile. She is interested in subverting dominant architectural structures to suggest other, more complex narratives.
